The Experts and their Sessions

The Speaker: Karunaharan V
Connect on LinkedIn
The Topic: Data-Driven User Assistance
About the Session
This presentation will cover the methods that are in place at SAP and the success stories of data analytics that improved both the product and customer experiences.
Today, data analysis techniques procure objective data that complements what we know from customer interactions. Combined with judicious interpretation and expert in-house knowledge, they give us the means to make sound decisions. That’s why, Data-Driven User Assistance is one of the five strategic pillars on which SAP’s vision for User Assistance is built.
Digital analytics give us insight into how users consume user assistance assets that are delivered on SAP’s official product assistance channel – the SAP Help Portal. Based on the quantitative data and the derived insights, User Assistance developers at SAP improve the content findability, experience, and usefulness. We make educated decisions about the future of the help that we provide to customers.
About the Speaker
Karunaharan started his career as a technical writer in 2011 with Capgemini where he created aircraft maintenance manuals for Bombardier Aerospace. Later, he joined SAP in 2016 as a User Assistance Developer.
In the last 8+ years with SAP, he has designed and developed content for SAP customers at different touchpoints in their journey with SAP products. Lately, he was the User Assistance Lead for SAP Integration Suite, a product worth half-billion dollar of revenue.
Currently, he is the User Assistance Lead for Central Master Data for SAP S/4HANA, the flagship ERP software of SAP. Karuna comes with an experience of 14 years in the field of technical writing.

The Topic: Transforming Goals into OKRs
About the Session
Writing simple, sensible, measurable OKRs is an art in itself.
As managers, some of us struggle with managing our teams besides having to deliver against the asks from the documentation team. OKRs enable us to align the expectations of the leadership team from the Documentation group, as well as, substantiate our claims on the value we bring to the table.
This presentation would focus on the need for OKRs, how OKRs can be tied to the documentation-specific use cases, and how to measure these OKRs.
About the Speaker
With a little over two decades of technical documentation experience, Menka is passionate about product documentation and tools. She loves to enhance processes to help Doc teams achieve success and strives to provide great customer experiences through content.
Her experience in documentation spans across several domains and various roles, including that of a DITA trainer and team manager. She is also a Responsible AI enthusiast besides being part of a mental health support system for students.
The Experts and their Sessions

The Speaker: Surag Ramachandran

The Topic: AI, Comics, & Storytelling in Technical Communication
About the Session
This session explores the dynamic intersection of artificial intelligence, comic creation, and storytelling in technical writing.
Drawing from his personal experience in fiction writing, comics, and technical communication, Surag demonstrates how comics can enhance technical documentation by combining engaging visuals with clear, concise information.
The presentation highlights practical applications of AI-generated comics, showcasing their potential as marketable products, compelling marketing tools, and effective educational resources. Surag compares the traditional comic creation process—storyboarding, penciling, inking, coloring, and lettering—with an AI-assisted approach that streamlines visual production using generative AI art tools and graphic design software.
He addresses key challenges such as scriptwriting, maintaining artistic consistency, and incorporating feedback, while also evaluating the strengths and limitations of AI comic generators.
Additionally, Surag shares practical AI art generation techniques, including sample prompts for different styles, and provides strategies for gaining leadership support. The session encourages technical communicators to adopt comic creation as an innovative storytelling medium in technical contexts.
About the Speaker
Surag Ramachandran is the Director of Technical Documentation at Certes, with over two decades of diverse experience spanning technical writing, marketing, instructional design, and documentation leadership.
His career has covered everything from hands-on content creation to building and mentoring high-performing teams and implementing forward-thinking content strategies.
Surag has played a pivotal role in helping global organizations realign their documentation ecosystems with business objectives and user expectations. He has successfully led geographically distributed teams, steered documentation through mergers, and pioneered hybrid content models that blend the rigor of DITA with the flexibility of Markdown.
Outside the documentation sphere, Surag is a storyteller at heart. He writes fiction, creates comic books, and is the author of Why AI? — an educational graphic novel that creatively merges pedagogy with narrative storytelling. The book was sold commercially, used as a marketing asset, and integrated into eLearning curricula, representing a unique fusion of content, commerce, and education. An abstract artist, Surag uses visual media — particularly painting and AI-generated visuals — to explore his themes. Across every medium, he brings a consistent passion for clarity, creativity, and meaningful connection.

The Topic: Docs, Duties, and Disappearing Responsibilities
About the Session
Making the invisible work of documentation seen, valued, and shared
Do you often hear, “This info isn’t documented”—even when it clearly is?
If so, this session will offer practical strategies to address this frustration. I’ll also share tips on effectively delegating work to your teams, whether they’re technical writers or not, without the guilt. Let’s explore how to hold each other accountable and ensure responsibilities are clearly defined. Together, we’ll learn how to work more efficiently and guilt-free.

The Topic: GitHub and AI, the latest duo
About the Session
GitHub and AI – the Latest Duo explores how the collaborative power of GitHub, combined with the intelligence of AI tools like GitHub Copilot, is transforming the way we work, code, and manage content.
This presentation aims to break the myth that GitHub is only for developers or that it’s too complex to use. With its user-friendly interface, version control, and collaboration features, GitHub makes it easy for individuals from all domains—including writers, designers, and project managers—to contribute effectively to shared projects without fear.
Understanding the basics of repositories, commits, branches, and pull requests can empower users to take full advantage of GitHub’s capabilities, even with minimal technical background. The session will also showcase how GitHub Copilot brings AI into the mix, offering intelligent code suggestions, documentation prompts, and automation that simplifies routine tasks. This integration not only reduces time and effort but also builds confidence in using GitHub more independently.
By demystifying GitHub and demonstrating how AI can be a supportive co-creator, the presentation will highlight how this duo is opening doors to smarter, faster, and more inclusive workflows across technical and non-technical teams alike.
About the Speaker
With 12 years of experience in Technical Writing, I have developed a strong expertise in creating clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for various domains, such as BFS, Insurance, and Retail.

The Experts and their Session
The Topic: Technical Writers and Agentic AI: Building Smarter Agents Together
Co-Presenters: Diana Divya S V and Thanuja V
About the Session
Agentic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems that can make decisions, take initiative, and act independently to achieve specific goals. Unlike traditional AI, which reacts to inputs in narrowly defined ways, agentic AI operates with a sense of purpose and autonomy. These systems are designed to assess situations, plan actions, and adapt as needed—much like a human assistant might.
As AI becomes more integrated into daily life and work, agentic capabilities are essential for building tools that are proactive, helpful, and aligned with user intentions.
Technical writers can play a key role in the development and success of agentic AI. They help define how AI systems communicate, make decisions, and interact with users in a clear and understandable way. By creating user-facing content, designing conversational flows, and contributing to intent modeling, tech writers ensure AI agents are accessible and user-friendly. Their expertise in structuring information and anticipating user needs helps build trust in AI systems and supports ethical, effective AI behavior.
